LiDAR, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, which uses light in the form of a pulsed laser to measure ranges (variable distances). The equipment fires rapid pulses of laser light, up to a million pulses (points) per second. A sensor on the equipment measures the amount of time it takes for each pulse to bounce back.
